The Controlled Substances Act of 1971 empowered the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to separate pharmaceutical drug products into five (5) categories or Schedules according to their likelihood of causing dependence when abused. Highly addictive Schedule I and Schedule II Controlled Substances must be stored in a burglary resistant vault of steel or reinforced masonry construction equipped with an alarm system that monitors unauthorized access.
Recently WDSrx met with a pharmaceutical manufacturer that required storage and handling for large inventories of Controlled Substance (CII) pharmaceutical drug products.
WDSrx is licensed by the DEA to handle Controlled Substances (Schedules II-V). In meeting with the prospective client, it was noted that available inventory capacity at the WDSrx Boca Raton, FL facility for Controlled Substances (CII) required expansion to accommodate their increased volume.
How could WDSrx create additional capacity in a short timeframe and secure a new client?
The WDSrx management team assessed options and proposed a solution that involved construction of a new vault structure at their Boca Raton, FL facility. In order to fully comply with the manufacturer’s needs, the structure was required to handle the total anticipated volume of Controlled Substances (CII) products provided by the manufacturer and to be completed within an abbreviated timeframe.
With terms agreed, the WDSrx team immediately developed an action plan and strategy to realize the ambitious project. Previous experience in the design, planning and engineering of similar structures ensured an efficient timetable. Steps were taken to maintain peak performance in the Distribution Center during construction.
Custom-built by Vault Structures, Inc., based in Fort Myers, FL, the project was completed in fifteen (15) days. The new vault adds 2,250 square feet capable of accommodating approximately four hundred (400) pallet positions for the handling and storage of Controlled Substances (CII). Comprehensive security measures include constant monitoring for fire, intrusion, motion, temperature and humidity. The entire structure weighs approximately 224,353 pounds with the main door alone weighing approximately 10,000 pounds.
Total capacity for Controlled Substances (CII) increased to 2,600 square feet at the WDSrx Boca Raton, FL facility.
At WDSrx, every option is explored in order to achieve desired results, producing a company culture that encourages innovative problem-solving as an important element for creating client satisfaction.
With the vault completed and racks installed, the new client’s pharmaceutical drug products immediately began to be received and properly handled for storage and distribution.
