April 28, 2020 (Boca Raton, FL) – While the world remained on lockdown, a shipment of medical devices arrived at WDSrx in Boca Raton, Florida from Italy, at the time the center of the pandemic.
The devices were received on behalf of a WDSrx client based in Italy that distributes their products to hospitals for use in orthopedic surgery. As a registered DEA Importer and Exporter, WDSrx has deep expertise transferring devices and medications including Controlled Substances within the international pharmaceutical supply chain.
Due to the special circumstances, the WDSrx transportation management team monitored the progress of the shipment of medical devices from point of origin through travel to the U.S. Port of Entry in Miami, Florida and beyond. Examinations by U.S. Customs, FDA and DOT were conducted before the items were authorized for transfer to WDSrx.
“With extremely urgent deliveries of time-sensitive products in times of supply disruption, reputable Logistics Services Providers including WDSrx work with all parties to keep the priority on the patient, minimize delay and expedite delivery,” according to WDSrx President Adam Runsdorf.
Upon arrival, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) were followed for product receipt. Additional steps were implemented during the intake process. Items were immediately placed in a special quarantine area of the warehouse facility and supplementary sanitizing practices further safeguarded employees. Disinfecting spray was applied to exterior packaging. The delivery remained in the quarantine area before trained warehouse technicians were allowed to handle the boxes using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including masks and gloves.
Freight volumes are expected to ramp up as industries begin production and national lockdowns end with the reduction in immediate threat from the COVID-19 virus. Although WDSrx completed multiple steps to receive this product order safely in our Boca Raton, Florida facility from Italy during the height of the coronavirus threat, future transactions are expected to be handled with equal care and efficiency.
