With more open pharmaceutical logistics positions available than qualified candidates to fill them, the supply chain industry is a seller’s market. A recent survey from a supply chain trade association noted that supply chain professionals see hiring skilled workers as their biggest challenge, and have ranked the skills gap as their primary challenge for the previous four years.
Palm Beach State College is rising to the challenge by expanding their Supply Chain Management course availability to multiple campuses in Lake Worth and in Palm Beach Gardens. The Supply Chain Management Kickoff and Expo Event occurred this morning at the PBSC Palm Beach Gardens Campus. The event introduced supply chain concepts and careers to accounting and entrepreneurial studies students interested in learning about available opportunities in pursuit of Associate’s and Certificate degrees in Supply Chain Management.
An expert panel of logistics professionals in Palm Beach County including Rick Murrell of Tropical Shipping, WDSrx Marketing Director Lawrence Hotz, Simona Falana, Adjunct Professor of Logistics at PBSC and Megan Plante, Logistics and Transportation Analyst at Carrier, shared their expertise and answered questions from the audience about how to gain entry-level jobs in the supply chain industry.
Administrators at PBSC including school President Parker, Palm Beach Gardens Campus Provost Coleman-Ferrell, Associate Dean Lancaster and Associate Dean Lebile each spoke about their commitment to producing qualified job candidates after completion of the supply chain management program.
A comment by panel member Rick Murrell, Managing Director of Saltchuk Resources summarized the event. “Attitude,” emphasized Murrell, “is altitude, and attitude is everything,” meaning students that take advantage of the opportunities available in the supply chain industry can achieve their dreams.
