How A National Manufacturer Responded Rapidly To Increased

Retail Demand

INTRODUCTION AND VIDEO CASE STUDY

SUCCESS FOR THIRD PARTY LOGISTICS PROVIDERS MEANS INCORPORATING FLEXIBILITY INTO DAILY BUSINESS PRACTICES.

CHALLENGE

Versatility was applied when a national nutritional supplement manufacturer approached WDSrx about a product display program for the U.S. store locations of a global consumer goods retailer.  The scope of this project involved multiple deliverables and extensive coordination.

SOLUTION

Specific activities included folding boxes, assembling inserts, placing the required product SKU from inventory within the display unit and combining several displays into secondary packaging.

The various supplements needed to fulfill the retailer orders were manufactured by the client and shipped to a WDSrx facility.  Retail display units were also received at the same warehouse facility for on-site assembly.  Sufficient space in the warehouse was allocated to this program while assuring the continued efficiency of all other services.

The project team was organized into two groups to increase productivity.  Each group was further divided according to function to create an assembly line operation.  Specific activities included folding boxes, assembling inserts, placing the required product SKU from inventory within the display unit and combining several displays into secondary packaging.

Close cooperation between WDSrx and the client was instrumental to achieve productivity goals.  The client assured a steady supply of the various materials to the production lines.  Real-time reporting and inventory data was shared between computer systems of both parties. Order fulfillment and shipping information was received at WDSrx assuring accurate picking and packing for timely delivery.  Both organizations worked together as a single integrated unit.

Close cooperation between WDSrx and the client was instrumental to achieve productivity goals.

The efficiencies gained from outsourcing the program to WDSrx enabled the client to fulfill orders on schedule and relieved them from the burden of non-core business functions including maintaining and managing a temporary workforce, allocating physical and human resources required for program operation, implementing training programs and standard operating procedures to maintain quality assurance standards.

“This program highlights our ability to partner with clients on specialized projects by offering scaleable options that consistently achieve objectives,” states WDSrx President Adam Runsdorf.
